Known as JC. Halsema Rd. in Jacksonville originally went to JC's lumber mill.
"Julian became a successful building contractor in Jacksonville and also owned a growing lumber mill and yard. He helped build St. Joseph's Academy and the Church of the Immaculate Conception.... He...had no children"
From interview by Douglas G Halsema with J.C. (Son of George Halsema) Jan 2002: J.C. (son of Lambertus) Owned the lumber Rd (Halsema Rd). The mill was on this Rd. He brought logs downriver. He owned the planing mill (we have a
photo). He owned over 10, 000 acres of land in the Mill Creek area of Jax and built many homes and office buildings. The lumberyard was 3 city blocks in the Springfield area (northern Jax). He was a Councilman for the city of
Jax. At one point he was worth over 100 million dollars in the 2002 market. During hard times he was overly kind over extending credit and not requiring payment
and wound up broke living in one of his offices with his furniture. J.C. (George's son) baptized in Immaculate Conception (IC). Mary Lillian Buren Married Henry Halsema there (as per Mary Agnes Buren), and Jackie Green was
Confirmed there as per Jackie Green.
