From John Ketelaars:
Before the war Lauran entered the seminary for a while with the fathers Salesians in Ghent, Belgium.
During the war he attended the Textile Night School while working as a weaver.
In 1947 he bought a corner variety store which he sold again in 1951.
He started working in the woolen industry and was rapidly promoted over the next 8 years, while again attending night school.
In 1958 the Wool industry in Tilburg died. Wool could no longer compete with the new synthetics.
The following year Lauran and Nelly and their 10 children left for Canada.
