June 28, 1870 South Ward Chester City page 176
Dennis appears in the Chester City directory as a laborer living at 1523 W. 8th from the 1895 directory until the directory of 1904-1905 when he last appears at that specific address.
The 1906-1907 Chester City directory shows a Dennis Green who is a laborer living at W. 7th abv. Tilghman.
No Dennis Green appears in the Chester City 1908-1909 Directory, but neither does his wife, Rose (Carr) Green, appear as a widow.
I cannot find either Dennis Green or Rose (Carr) Green on the 1910 census. --DGH USA Census, 1900 Owen Green The First Green Generation in the USA
This purpose of this source record is to help establish that Anne and William were married and they are the correct parents of the Dennis Green In the Halsema line. Furthermore, it helps to establish that Anne and Williamwere the first generation from this direct line to arrive in the USA. It also helps to establish that the Rosanna Green listed on the 1860 census under Anne Green is Rose Carr, Dennis Green's wife.
Owen Green writes: I confess that I do not have a document of Dennis to show who his parents, however, looking at subsequent census information and comparing it to the 1860 census, I have no doubt that Ann was Dennis's mother. Forexample, the 1860 census identifies 3 of Dennis's brothers, Edward, Patrick and William. I remember my Grandfather mentioning Dennis and William as being Patrick's brother. Following that lead, I obtained a copy of William's deathcertificate. That document identifies William's parents as William and Ann. Also, Catholic Cemeteries of Philadelphia has identified young William as being buried in the same grave site as Ann (mother) and it lists William'sdeath date the same as young William's death certificate. ---The Rosanna that appears on the 1860 census for Anne Green is believed to be Rose Carr.
Doug Halsema writes:
Here are some things that may be pertinent in further demonstrating that the family of Anne Green on the 1860 census is the correct family and the "Rosanna" listed under Dennis is Dennis' wife Rose Carr.
Dennis and Rose's first born son is named William. Perhaps he is so named after Dennis' father. The baby's godparents are William and Anna which could very well be Dennis' brother and sister.
We have 7 children listed as the children of Dennis Green and Rose Carr. We have a baptismal record for each of those children.
Dennis and Rose's Son, John P., baptized 11 Feb 1868: His baptismal Record has his mother's name recorded as Rosanna Kerr. I've been told that often Carr is an Anglicized version of Kerr.
Dennis and Rose's Son, Thomas, baptized 15 Dec 1873: His baptismal record has his mother's name recorded as Rosanna Carr.
Dennis and Rose's Son, William, baptized 22 Aug 1860: His sponsors are listed as William and Anna Green. Perhaps these are Dennis's brother and sister.
All of the baptismal records for Dennis's and Rose's children list Rose as Rose or Rosa Carr or Kerr except the two records mentioned above who name her Rosanna.
As an aside: Three out of the seven baptismal records we have lists Rose's surname name as Carr. All of the other four are Kerr.
The three boys born after 1870 are the one's whose records list Rose's surname as Carr. Sometimes when I've seen that it is only because different priests are spelling the name different ways. But that is not necessarily so in theis case. One priest is listed three times and uses three variants for Rose Carr. Fr. Thomas (something) in 1868 writes Rosanna Kerr, in 1873 writes Rosanna Carr, and in 1876 writes Rosa Carr.
When Francis James Green is baptized on 28 Dec 1862 there are 2 baptisms that are recorded right before his. They appear to be twins, Christopher and Mary Ricard. The twins have all Greens as godparents . Christopher's are Edwardand Anna Green. Mary's are Dennis and Catherine Green. Perhaps Edward, Anna, and Dennis are siblings and children and Anne and William. I don't know who this Catherine is, but there is a Catherine Green who is the Godmother for2 of Dennis' children, Michael and John. It's probably the same woman. --DGH
