Some old photos of the New Smyrna area and of Andrew Turnbull.
The extensive Turnbull system provided irrigation and drainage for nearly 3000 acers of improved land claimed by the colonists in the early 1770's. Impressed with the Egyptian practice, Andrew Turnbull adopted its use for the New Smyrna colony. This view looks east from today's Chamber of Commerce at 115 Canal Street prior to 1924 when the main canal was covered by a sidewalk. Comments Rascio.
