Joseph Leonardy Civil War Pension
Pension says Joseph Leonardy the First. This would be Joseph Antonio Leonardy.
In 1861 he lived in Sanderson and enlisted in the Third Infantry, Company B, “Saint Augustine Blues” 24 May 1861 and was appointed 4th Sgt * May 1862. He was wounded at Perryville 8 Oct 1862 and was captured 31 Dec 1862 at Parker’s Roads. He was exchanged at City Point in April 1863. He was promoted during his absence to 3rd Sgt on 27 March 1863 and then to 2nd Sgt 1 July 1863. He was furloughed 18 April 1864 and hospitalized in Lake City 15 Sept 1864. He was paroled at Tallahassee 13 May 1865. Joseph was 5’6″, black hair and eyes, dark skin.
Pension application states he was shot in the right leg. –DGH
